From Foster Kittens to Forever Inspiration | Miami Pet Photographer

About seven years ago, my husband brought home two rescue kittens right before Christmas. At the time, I was already photographing babies, children, and even my dog, so picking up the camera felt natural. My first instinct was to do what I knew best; style a set. I added Christmas props, the same way I would for my baby sessions, and photographed the kittens in hopes of helping them find a home.

But as time went on, those kittens slowly became part of our family. What started as foster photos turned into something much bigger.

As I continued photographing them, I quickly learned that cats are a whole different world from babies or dogs. They don’t follow commands, and posing isn’t really in their nature. At first I tried to apply the same approach I used for my other sessions, but soon I realized that the most natural way to capture cats was through play.

I knew very little about cats back then, and I had no idea just how high they could jump or how expressive they could be in motion. Watching them leap, chase, and play opened up a new way of seeing them. It made photographing them fun, unpredictable, and full of surprises.

These images may not be technically perfect, but they mean so much to me because they remind me where it all began. At the time, pet photography wasn’t a trend the way it is today. Dog portraits leaned more traditional, and cat photography was rare. Discovering how much personality came through in playful moments shaped the way I approached pets moving forward.

Cats, like all pets, are more than companions. They’re full of character, joy, and energy, and they deserve to be celebrated in a way that feels authentic to them.
